SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE/UPGRADE OPERATION
UPDATE: All works completed successfully
We'd like to inform you about scheduled maintenance/upgrade for ~okeanos-global service between 15:00 EET and 17:00 EET on Monday, November 20.
Your VMs and Pithos+ files should remain unaffected. Maintenance is expected to cause minor disruptions to the ~okeanos-global service. Astakos, Cyclades and Pithos+ Web UIs and their APIs will be unavailable for a short time during the upgrade.
No loss of connectivity is expected for the VMs.

SECURITY UPDATE: WANNACRY RANSOMWARE
Hi ~okeanos-global users,
There is a rather dangerous ransomware, the WannaCry / Wcry / WannaCrypt ransomware, that has been spreading since Friday, May 12. The ransomware takes advantage of the MS17-010 vulnerability that affects Microsoft Operating Systems.
In order to protect the virtual machines from exposure to the WannaCry / Wcry / WannaCrypt ransomware, all incoming TCP traffic to ports 137-139 & 445 has been blocked.
The aforementioned firewall rules were applied to partially prevent the ransomware from spreading. Therefore, we urge you to perform all the necessary updates on your Windows virtual machines.

IMPORTANT UPGRADE ON ~OKEANOS-GLOBAL SERVICE
UPDATE: All works completed successfully
Hello ~okeanos-global users,
We are happy to announce that on Wednesday, April 26 between 09:00 and 12:00 EEST we will be doing a major upgrade on the ~okeanos-global service, with a new version of the Synnefo software and a new version of the operating system for its infrastructure.
During the upgrade, all running Cyclades VMs will be temporarily shut down and automatically restarted afterwards. The Cyclades and Pithos Web UI and APIs will also be inaccessible in the above timeframe.

SURVIVING A RADOS OUTAGE

Recently ~okeanos-global service faced some disruptions, as we informed you on a previous blog post. Let's shed some light on what caused them.
The ~okeanos-global storage backend (Archipelago) is backed by Ceph, an open-source distributed software-defined storage solution. On Friday, September 9, at 9 p.m., Object Storage Daemons (OSDs) of the RADOS cluster became unstable resulting in the cluster erroneously marking OSDs as down.
